Artist Wellbeing

As both an autobiographical theatre-maker and a facilitator of artist well-being, I intimately understand the vulnerability and strength that accompany creative expression. I offer wellbeing support for performers, theatre-makers, and creative teams working with demanding, personal, or emotionally resonant material.

Drawing on my background as a dramatherapist, theatre-maker, and performer, I provide reflective spaces and practical tools to help artists care for themselves while nurturing their craft. This work supports sustainable, ethical creative processes, with attention to nervous system regulation, boundaries, and embodied experience. While not therapy, the creative and reflective engagement can foster resilience and self-awareness throughout the artistic journey.

Approach

My approach to artist wellbeing is relational, reflective, and embodied. I work alongside artists and creative teams to support grounding, integration, and care before, during, and after creative processes.

This work may include:

  • reflective space for artists and ensembles
  • support around vulnerability, identity, and autobiographical material
  • embodied grounding and regulation practices
  • facilitation of group reflection and integration

While informed by therapeutic training, this work is not therapy. Any therapeutic benefit arises through reflective and embodied support within artistic contexts, rather than through formal clinical treatment.

Experience in Artist Wellbeing

I have supported artist wellbeing within a range of professional theatre contexts, including:

  • Marat/Sade — Derby Theatre
  • The Poitín Maker’s Child — Derby Theatre / Lakeside Arts
  • Much Ado About Nothing — Steps for the Future / Dedé

This work has included supporting performers and creative teams working with intense material, large-scale productions, and autobiographical or identity-led content.

Who this work is for

Artist wellbeing support is suitable for:

  • performers and theatre-makers
  • Anyone who identifies as an artist
  • creative teams and ensembles
  • directors and facilitators seeking additional care support
  • artists working with autobiographical, political, or identity-based material

Support can be offered:

  • as part of a rehearsal or production process
  • as one-off sessions or short-term support
  • for companies, festivals, and arts organisations

A note on boundaries

Artist wellbeing work is distinct from dramatherapy. It takes place within artistic and organisational contexts, rather than clinical settings. Where therapeutic support is required, this is discussed separately and offered within appropriate therapeutic frameworks.
